Bill Copeland
From
Gordon Rowe:
There's
not a whole lot available on Bill but we have these photos we can include. I did
find out, after a phone conversation with Bill that he was born on May 6, 1942
in Seattle Washington. He moved to Warner Robins with his family in 1959. Bill
and I talked about airplanes and his love for them. The B-29 is his favorite and
in that regard, we have a lot in common. The man, after all, does
fly as a flight engineer in my all-time favorite aircraft since it is also the
one my daddy flew during WW II. One
of the photos shows Bill standing in what, if I remember correctly, is a B-24
bomb bay. The bomb doors on a B-24 did not swing open but were, rather, moved on
tracks in the fuselage of the airplane to open and close very much like some
sectional garage doors do today. Another shot shows Bill with his hand on the
rear of the pilot's seat in what looks to be the cockpit of a B-24 bomber. There
is also a shot of Bill at the Flight Engineer's deck aboard the "FIFI".
